Ian lost both of his legs and half of his right hand in a fire back in 2002, when he was aged 24. He spent 7 weeks in a coma and a full year in hospital . Unable to work in warehousing any more due to his disability, he went on to study history at Edinburgh University and became an author and historian. Ian's first passion, asides football, is casualty simulation and acting.

"I love using my injuries, my experience and my personality to help others, be that in helping to train medics on live exercises, or adding realism to TV and film productions. When I'm doing these things, I forget that I'm disabled and feel that I'm making a valuable contribution."

Ian's acting and casualty simulation CV includes:

Dozens of live exercises with various armed forces and emergency services organisations. These roles range from being pulled out of burning vehicles all day, to simply lying in a hospital playing a character.

Background or stunt roles in Ocean of Fear, Taggart, Casualty, The King's Speech, Riding The Tiger, Downton Abbey and a host of smaller productions, ranging from corporate training films to adverts and modelling .

Ian primarily uses a wheelchair to get around at the moment. He has PTSD and ADHD. These conditions do not affect his ability to play challenging roles.

Ian has his own state-of the art, movie SFX grade roll-on prosthetics, custom  designed and made by Samantha Agnew.
